Green SnowPro Training

The Green Snow Pro course is designed for public and private sector winter maintenance professionals, ranging from operator, owner or director. The course covers the environmental impacts of Salt and Sand on the environment as well as important weather factors that affect snow composition and adhesion.  The course also details brine making, and anti-icing materials and technologies, as well as the science of salt, pre-wetting and pre-treating, and effective and efficient application rates in a 5-hour interactive setting.

The Green SnowPro Training course focuses on efficient and environmentally friendly winter maintenance practices. The course covers the basics of salt reduction including:

  • Equipment Calibration

  • Anti-Icing

  • Brine Making

  • Pre-wetting with Brine and Other Liquids

  • Effecient Application Rate Changes with Pavement Temperature

  • Effective Plowing

  • Emerging Technologies

  • Salt Accounting

  • Environmental Impacts

The course is approximately 4.5 hours of classroom instruction after which participants take a 30 minute exam to qualify for certification.

Within New Hampshire, new legislation has been put in place that allows for a reduction in liability insurance for those who use a Green SnowPro certified applicator.  Applicators take the training course and pass the exam are then eligible to apply for the voluntary certification.
